However, they can exhibit aggressive behavior and bite in certain situations, such as during mating season, egg-laying, or when they feel threatened by humans.
Touching the sea creatures or causing a commotion in the water can also lead to unusually aggressive reactions from sea turtles. Experts therefore emphasize that swimmers should always keep their distance from these protected animals and never touch or feed them.

How Should Swimmers Behave When Encountering a Turtle in the Water?
If swimmers encounter a turtle in the sea, they should remain calm and keep a safe distance. Sea turtles are usually not aggressive, but they can react with stress if they feel crowded or threatened.
Therefore, they should never be touched, chased, or even fed. Hectic movements or attempts to get particularly close to the animals for photos should also be avoided.

Experts recommend giving the turtle enough space to move away and observing it only from a safe distance. This helps prevent both injuries and unnecessary stress for the sea creatures.
What to Do After a Turtle Bite?
If bitten by a turtle, the wound should be rinsed with clean water and disinfected as soon as possible. A visit to the doctor is advisable, as bite injuries carry an increased risk of infection and may require medical treatment depending on their depth.
Particularly in cases of heavy bleeding, deep wounds, or signs of infection such as redness, swelling, or pain, medical advice should be sought immediately. Although bites from sea turtles are rare, their strong jaws can cause significant injuries.
