Over 12,000 people participated in our voting for Germany’s funniest pet video and chose their favorite from 10 finalists. The winner is Betty the cat and her slip-up. PETBOOK asked owner Stella five questions about the video star.
In September, PETBOOK launched the call to crown Germany’s funniest pet video of 2022. Until October 31, readers could choose their favorite from 10 finalists. Among the protagonists of the funny pet videos were brave ghost hunters, ball professionals, and kissing cuddle cats. Over 12,000 votes were received by the editorial team, and in the end, a true classic won: Betty the cat, with her slip into the bathtub, is the winner and rightfully holds the title for Germany’s funniest pet video of 2022.
Over 12,000 people participated in the voting. Betty the cat emerged as the clear winner with over 40 percent of the votes. Betty has lived with her owner Stella Neumann and her partner in Münster for seven years. When asked by PETBOOK, her cat mom revealed how the funny pet video came about and that Betty also provides many funny moments in everyday life.
“Betty is a Rascal”
PETBOOK: Ms. Neumann, how long have you had Betty and how did you come to have her?
Stella Neumann: We found Betty in February 2014, very emaciated, as a stray. The vet estimated her to be about three-quarters of a year old at the time. Betty was a rascal. She would wake me up at night, empty the trash can, and even chew on shoes and preferably the handles of bags. And not just mine—everyone who visited got to know Betty this way!
Does Betty have any special traits or talents?
What makes Betty unique is that she is a hermaphrodite. She has male reproductive organs inside and is female on the outside. A quirk of nature. When the vet wanted to spay her, he discovered the phenomenon and was quite surprised…

How the Funniest Pet Video of 2022 Came About
How did the situation in the video come about?
Betty loves to be everywhere. Whether it’s the bathroom, office, or kitchen, she’s always there. She used to always sit on the edge of the bathtub and play with the foam, and I actually just wanted to record that. Suddenly, she fell in. Since then, she still likes to go to the bathroom but doesn’t get on the edge anymore.
Besides the situation in the video, is there a particularly funny story with Betty that you like to remember?
Yes, once we came home from work, and Betty had knocked a plate with various sweets off the living room table, nibbled on them, and played with them. The whole living room was full of Rocher, nuts, cookies, and Raffaello. When we unlocked the door, she was, of course, happy and came to us with a Rocher sticker on her nose. Naturally, she acted as if nothing had happened and that she had nothing to do with the chaos in the living room.
By now, Betty is estimated to be almost 10 years old and has thankfully calmed down. She loves to cuddle and doesn’t wake us up as much as she used to. She also no longer chews on shoes and bags.
Betty the cat now not only holds the title of Germany’s funniest pet video of 2022 but also won a package of cat food worth 1,000 euros, provided by PETBOOK’s premium partner Cat’s Love.
“We are glad to have Betty. Therefore, I would like to donate part of the winnings to the Katzenhilfe Münster, which takes care of strays like Betty once was,” Stella Neumann told PETBOOK.
