Friday evening in Bremen: Traffic was backed up on Pappelweg—but not due to an accident or construction. Instead, a stubborn yet leisurely pot-bellied pig caused a stir. What awaited the police in Gröpelingen was an unusual animal-related incident.
Pot-bellied Pig “Peppa” on the Loose
On October 24, 2025, around 9 p.m., the Bremen police were called to Oslebshausen, according to a press release. Motorists had reported an unusual obstacle: A pot-bellied pig was leisurely crossing the road—completely unfazed by cars and law enforcement.
On-site, the officers initially tried to gently guide the animal off the road. However, the pig, which was later found to be named Peppa, showed no interest in traffic rules and continued her evening stroll undeterred.
Officers Persuade Peppa–With Patience
Repeated attempts to coax the animal to turn back with friendly words were unsuccessful. Eventually, the officers managed to gently get the pig to stop. Minor escape attempts were consistently but charmingly thwarted.
Since the owners could not initially be identified, the police prudently requested a special vehicle with an animal transport box—cheekily referred to by the officers as the “Miss Piggy Van.” Yet Peppa responded to this offer with loud grunting—and simply stood her ground.

Owner Brings the Solution
Only through a passing motorist, who knew both the pig and its owner, did the situation reach a positive conclusion. Michaela Bah, 52, was informed and rushed to the scene. At the sound of her voice, Peppa immediately responded—and obediently followed her back to the stable.
“When ‘Peppa’ is stubborn, you can’t move her. She stands there like a tree,” Bah explained to BILD (also part of Axel Springer). In the stable, daughter “Peppel” was already waiting for her mother—both live together with other animals such as chickens on a farm in Bremen.

Pig Just Wanted to Run With the Horses
How did the outing happen in the first place? Bah had an explanation for that, too: “My two pot-bellied pigs often think they’re horses and want to run along. That was probably the case on this day as well. Fortunately, their outing ended well, aside from a few traffic disruptions!”
After the eventful evening, the owner was relieved: “I’m very relieved that she’s back. She was quite frightened.” The animal incident likely left lasting memories not only for the officers but also for the motorists. The Bremen police concluded with a tongue-in-cheek summary: “Conclusion: no further measures—lucky pig.”
