The selection of Advent calendars for dogs available in stores is vast, with promises regarding content, size, variety, quality, and prices varying greatly. To help you choose the right calendar for your dog, Philine Ebert, PETBOOK author and canine nutritionist, has analyzed and compared twelve different Advent calendars from leading manufacturers. And indeed, there are significant differences.
Advent Calendars for Dogs Compared – How They Were Rated
Nowadays, there is a wide range of Advent calendars for dogs available in stores – but the quality, variety, and composition of the included snacks vary greatly. For PETBOOK, I tested various calendars in two price categories:
- under 20 euros and
- over 20 euros.
The Advent calendars in this article are arranged in ascending order by price. Those who want to jump directly to the premium brands will find them further down.
Among other things, the following were evaluated:
- Variety and diversity of snacks,
- Ingredients, compatibility for sensitive dogs,
- Sustainability of packaging, and
- Value for money.
Special attention was paid to the composition of the treats (e.g., meat content, additives, grain-free), suitability for sensitive or allergic animals, and the overall value of the calendar – both in terms of content and packaging sustainability.
Rating System
| Category | Rating Criterion | Point Description |
|---|---|---|
| Variety & Diversity | Number and variety of snack types, shapes, consistency | 1 = very monotonous (1–2 types) to 5 = very diverse (8+ types, various textures and shapes) |
| Ingredients | Quality of ingredients, meat content, avoidance of problematic components | 1 = low (grain, unclear composition) to 5 = high quality (clearly declared, high meat content, natural ingredients) |
| Additives | Use of preservatives, colorants, artificial flavors, etc. | 1 = many additives, 3 = partially without, 5 = completely free of additives |
| Sustainability | Packaging (plastic content, recycling, reusability) | 1 = lots of plastic, 5 = completely recyclable or plastic-free |
Advent Calendar for Dogs by “Multifit”
The Multifit Advent calendar is one of the cheapest in the test at just under five euros, but it offers little variety. The 24 doors contain simple treats from two types with grain and dairy products. Due to the preservatives, it is less suitable for dogs with dietary sensitivities. The packaging is entirely made of cardboard and plastic, which lowers the sustainability rating. Overall, a cheap but simple calendar for non-sensitive dogs.

The Dogs’n Tiger calendar focuses on premium quality: The snacks contain up to 85 percent meat and are free from sugar, artificial flavors, or flavor enhancers. However, the calendar offers only three different types and a notably small content of 144 grams. The packaging is appealing but not particularly sustainable.
