His name is Mr. Pugsley Addams, his appearance is imposing—but the real highlight of this grey Maine Coon cat from Minnesota is something completely different: his tail. According to an official record in the Guinness Book of Records, he now has the longest cat tail in the world.
A Maine Coon cat from the USA has set a world record with its incredible tail length. Mr. Pugsley Addams has now been officially recognized as the cat with the longest tail (living). Continue reading to discover how this came to be and why his owners hold a special fondness for the Addams Family.
A Tail That Causes a Stir
Whether he’s frolicking on the scratching post, frolicking with his siblings Winnie, Duchess, and Gomez, or simply snoozing, two-year-old Maine Coon cat Mr. Pugsley Addams is particularly notable for one feature: his exceptionally long tail. Following a veterinary measurement, it is now clear: at 46.99 centimetres (18.5 inches), he has the longest tail of any living cat in the world, and has an official entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
Named after the iconic character from the Addams Family, Pugsley resides with the Cameron family in Mound, Minnesota, in the United States. It was clear from the very first visit to the vet that Pugsley’s tail was anything but ordinary. “When I took him to the vet for the first time, he came in and said, ‘That’s a really long tail. And upon closer inspection, I thought… ‘Yes… it really is, isn’t it?'” Pugsley’s owner, Amanda, recalls the moment she thought she might be living with a record-breaking cat carrier.

How It All Began – a Suspicion Becomes a World Record
The idea that her cat might be extraordinary lingered in Amanda’s mind—persisting even after another vet visit six months later, where Pugsley’s tail was once again the center of discussion.
“So I told my children about it, and their first reaction was, of course, to see if there was a current Guinness World Record title for it. And lo and behold—there was one, and to our astonishment, Pugsley had surpassed it!”
The fact that Pugsley was able to set such a record is no coincidence: Maine Coons are considered the largest domesticated cat breed. They are late developers in the cat world and take longer than some others to reach their impressive size. Some grow for three years, others for up to five. This means that Pugsley, who is just two years old, could continue to grow and even surpass himself when it comes to the title of “the cat with the longest tail in the world”.
Addams Family – Even in the Cat Basket
Pugsley not only shares his name with an iconic movie character, but also a bit of his personality. Although he knows a few commands, such as “sit,” his owner describes him as a “mischievous” cat who has a very simple daily routine: “Eat. Beg. Eat. Sleep. Beg. Eat. Sleep. Eat. Beg. Play catch. Eat. Sleep.”
He also shares his home with his brother Gomez Addams, a black Maine Coon. And he also has typical movie traits: “Gomez is very affectionate and romantic, he wants nothing more than to cuddle up in the crook of your arm and look deep into your eyes while he strokes your cheek with his claws,” she said. In this respect, the cat is just like the classic Addams family patriarch. However, whether cats can truly experience romance is a matter for debate.
Pugsley, on the other hand, is very much like Wednesday Addams’ little brother: curious, adventurous, and clever. “He’s definitely the biggest troublemaker in the house and very creative when it comes to finding new ways to get into mischief,” says his owner. “And yet he is sweet and caring and loves his mom”.
