Once again, a little kitten has found its way into the heart of Hollywood star Halle Berry—this time with public involvement. The Oscar winner is making waves on Instagram with her latest cat rescue and is asking her community for help in choosing a name.
With this tongue-in-cheek nod to her 2004 superhero film, the 59-year-old took to Instagram, sharing several photos of a tiny, curious kitten. In the pictures, Berry lovingly holds the animal in front of her face—the kitten gazes directly into the camera with wide eyes.
As she writes, the “another little angel” appeared in her garden. The actress, who has already taken in several cats, explained: “Please help me give him a name. He is three weeks old and a lot of fun!”
The kitten in the photos shared by Berry is black and white with blue eyes. This indeed suggests it is younger than three months. However, if the animal is, as Berry described, only three weeks old, the Oscar winner might be in for a challenging time with the kitten.
Second Rescue for Halle Berry Within a Year
At this age, kittens are still fully dependent on their mother and drink milk. They also learn important behaviors and are socialized during this time. Hand-rearing by humans is very time-consuming and, if not done by experts, can lead to later behavioral issues and misdevelopment in the animals.
However, Berry has already gained experience in raising kittens. Last summer, the “X-Men” actress publicly shared that she had discovered four stray kittens, including their mother, in her garden. At that time, she reported to her approximately nine million Instagram followers that she successfully found loving homes for two of the animals, had the mother spayed, and kept the other two. Berry did not share whether the mother of the newly found kitten could also be located.
From “Monster’s Ball” to “Catwoman”
In 2002, Halle Berry became the first African American actress to win the Oscar for Best Actress—for her role in the drama “Monster’s Ball.” Just three years later, she was awarded the Golden Raspberry (“Razzie”) for Worst Actress for “Catwoman”—a prize she accepted with humor and self-irony.
Now, with her growing love for cats, Berry seems to be establishing herself as a “real Catwoman”—complete with an actively involved fan community. Not only do Boots and Coco live with her, but also their mother, who has since become an “outdoor cat” in the backyard. With the current new addition, Berry’s cat family is growing once again. But that’s not all: Berry has also “gone to the dogs” with her two Labradoodles and frequently engages in animal welfare. In 2020, she used her reach to help find a good home for a cat named after her. 1
